Safeguarding

At St Cuthbert Mayne School, the safety, wellbeing and welfare of every student is our highest priority. We are committed to providing a safe, caring and supportive environment where all students feel secure, valued and able to thrive.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All members of staff have a responsibility to protect children from harm, identify concerns and take appropriate action to ensure students receive the right help and support at the right time.

Our staff receive regular safeguarding training and understand their responsibility to recognise and report concerns. We have a dedicated Safeguarding Team who work closely with students, families and, where appropriate, external agencies to provide support and ensure the needs of the child remain at the centre of any decisions we make. Our approach to safeguarding includes protecting students from abuse, neglect and exploitation, as well as supporting their physical and mental wellbeing, online safety and personal development. We also teach students how to recognise risks, make safe choices and know where to turn if they need help.

We want every student to know that there is always someone at school they can talk to. Students are encouraged to speak to a trusted member of staff if they are worried about themselves or someone else, and any concerns raised will be taken seriously. We work in partnership with parents, carers and other professionals to create a strong culture of safeguarding throughout our school community.

If you have a safeguarding concern about a child, please contact our Safeguarding Team. If a child is in immediate danger, please contact the emergency services by calling 999.

Keeping Children Safe In Education

Keeping Children Safe in Education (often shortened to KCSiE) is a piece of statutory government guidance that sets out the legal duties all staff and volunteers in Education must follow to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people aged under 18 years in schools and colleges.

The guidance applies to all schools and education settings, and Part 1 should be read by all staff, including teachers, headteachers, and all staff working in education settings, plus governing bodies, proprietors and management committees.
